Washburn Area Musem

The second floor of the Washburn Cultural Center houses the Washburn Area Museum (WAM), whose collections include dioramas, photographs, and artifacts depicting the people and industries that shaped the City of Washburn (located in Bayfield County, Wis.)* and its surrounding areas.

WAM is organized and operated independently of WCC by a volunteer staff and Board.

For nearly 40 years, the Washburn Area Museum has been providing a place for local people to donate all sorts of items of historic significance for preservation and sharing with the general public. Consequently, WAM has a sizable, varied collection of historical treasures housed in our archives. The centerpiece of the collection is the complete photo and manuscript estate of the late, great Charles M. Sheridan (1905-1991), a prolific, nationally known photojournalist who was born and raised in Washburn and lived out his days here.
